the punk rock hall of fame.

the idea is simple.

to get enough people to chip in to buy the retford porterhouse and , as a co-operative/anarchic/punk/DIY project slowly turn it into "the punk rock hall of fame."

to do this we need to buy the building now. we can do it if we all share the cost.

the price is easily attainable. at the moment the lower auction price is £60 000.

there is a facebook group. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=143267855688776&v=wall

we have approx 500 members. £200 each would give us a small amount of leeway on that starting price.

if we could get 1000 members then we will be down to £100 each minimum contribution.

after that we just let it build itself. =0)

you might lose your £100. you might wait a year and then sell your share back into the co-op. you might even get involved and make it an even more worthwhile activity.

below is a history of what has been said copied from the facebook page for those who do not have an account.

this is not a regularly updated feed from facebook. this is an indication of where we are at now.

we need to raise the sponsorship and register names and shares in the next few weeks.

<from facebook>

this is a co-operative.

i.e. dont leave it all up to me you slackers. =0)

contact everyone and anyone you can think of that may know someone who wants in. record shops , clothing merchants , old punks , we can even let the odd marxist in..... ;0)

a probably badly judged and ill thought out attempt to buy the retford porterhouse and turn it into a non-profit co-operative owned by all the bored teenagers of the late 70's.

"the punk rock hall of fame!!"

Andrew Howard It's the most deranged idea I've heard in weeks. I'm in.

sitting close enough to sheffield , doncaster and nottingham to attract

Andy Hardie There's no asking price bro - Plus, having read the estate agent thing, is it being sold by recievers? Should get it for cheap if so...? I'm in - Surely everyone can manage fifty sheets?

Kevin James Great idea if it wasn't in retford!

16 July 2010 at 22:13 ·  ·

Sam Fisheye You gotta start gettin in touch with said bands from 'back in the day' and start organising benefits....i'm tryin to think of what else...!

Xpyda Man anyone who was around in the late 70's will remember the retford porterhouse and the plethora of punk bands that played there. it was an oasis of spit and leather in an otherwise turgid existence.
for many years it went into decline and eventually turned into a teeny techno disco before being closed down for a number of offences.
well its now up for sale and we've had the perhaps not too bright an idea of getting all the old punks to chip in a couple of quid each and to buy it and turn it into the punk rock hall of fame. run as a non-profit organisation and paid for out of love. =0)
not managed to get a price yet as they want proof of finances before even beginning to discuss it , so let say for arguments sake they want something like quarter of a million.
thats only 250 000 punks giving a quid each!! sounds a lot? dunno , punk is a worldwide phenomenon and who wouldnt want to say they owned a part of its heritage?
doing a bit of math makes the situation seem a whole lot easier , for instance we only need 125000 punks to give 2quid each , 62500 to give 4quid each or 5000 to give 50 quid each.
so , spread the word for us will you? time may well be short but the place could be ours. lets make "the punk rock hall of fame" a reality and create somewhere for all us old punks to curl up and die happy in.

Xpyda Man membership is falling. this is because people who do not want to contribute are now leaving as asked. this is a good thing. please everyone who does not want to contribute leave within the week.
this will give you time to see what the final share price is likely to be.
anyone still here , now is really the time to talk to your friends and sell them this proposition.

we can still easily end up with a member share as low as £100 and still have plenty in reserve for bargaining power should we need to go beyond even 90 000.

this is still so do-able.

peace and anarchy.
